Project Description

Arthur is working with Dr. Tony Schmitz on adding in-process metrology to CNC turning centers. The specific application is the identification of deviations from nominal dimensions for forged parts, which cause more or less material to be removed than commanded and result in premature tool failure. The goal of this project is to identify these variations and, if necessary, adjust the part program to account for these dimensional inaccuracies prior to machining. Arthur is also working on a process to convert two-dimensional images into three-dimensional micro-machined parts.
