Project Description

Jaydeep is working with Dr. Tony Schmitz to include the effects of tool wear on milling dynamics. His research project is focused on the effect of tool wear on milling dynamics. In this work, tool wear is included as a process limitation along with stability and surface location error. The tool wear is incorporated using cutting force coefficients. The cutting force coefficients for the worn tool are included in the stability and surface location error analyses to indicate the process performance under actual conditions. Additionally, uncertainty in the input parameters is included. The final goal is cost minimization for select of optimum operating conditions for a given tool-material combination, including uncertainty considerations.
